Why We Believe In Camp Blue Sky
Founded in 1998, Camp Blue Sky is a nonprofit, week-long arts day camp. We encourage and nurture children to explore a variety of fine & performing arts centered around a different theme each summer. Led by community members and taught by art professionals, classes and activities emphasize creative problem-based learning while promoting process over product. While small class size is maintained throughout the camp, all-age group activities are scheduled to foster inter-generational cooperation, building excitement and exuberance for the arts and community.
Camp Blue Sky is a not for profit art camp for children that benefits the community in a variety of ways. We are generously hosted each year by State Fair Community College in Sedalia Missouri. The camp is overseen by a volunteer board that puts hundreds of hours each year towards bringing an enriched creative experience to the children of the Mid Missouri area. Vital to our success, dozens of other volunteers join us each year during the week of camp, sharing our vision for a strong creative future for the children and community we serve.

Camp Blue Sky is dedicated to improving the community in which we live by offering art growth to children. We see the need to foster creative thinking becoming more and more vital. The gap between those who are prepared to creatively problem solve and those who are not continues to widen. At CBS, we seek to fill that gap by providing a rich, assessable, and affordable summer camp that kids LOVE! Creativity is not limited to visual arts. Theatre and music are a vital part of developing artistically. Young artists bloom best in a multi-specialty environment where they can develop creative agility and find their own personal creative niche.
In Loving Memory
Barbara Lamy Cooney
January 13, 1937 – May 8, 2019
Barbara was the founder and biggest supporter of Camp Blue Sky! Every year she brought great excitement to camp. She spent countless hours planning, image streaming and dreaming. We continue to miss her leadership, enthusiasm and her twinkly blue eyes, wide smile, generous laugh and creative energy. Her memory and her love of art continues to inspire all of us on our quest to bring the best art camp for children in our community.
Camp Blue Sky began in 1998 as the brain child of one visionary artist and educator Barbara Cooney. Her brilliant contribution began small but bold as an outdoor art camp. The following year the camp moved to the State Fair Community College campus, bringing many of the classes indoors and expanding our ability to provide quality classes.

How You can help
Donate
Your donation, whatever the size, directly benefits our community by allowing us to share the CBS experience with more children. Each child that participates in Camp Blue Sky is better equipped to contribute to our community and society as a creative problem solver.
Each year Camp Blue Sky offers scholarships for those children who’s families could not otherwise afford to send them to camp. Your donation goes toward sponsoring these children. We suggest the donation amount of tuition for one child, $130 however any amount is appreciated.
Click the DONATE button below to donate through Paypal. All donations are welcome. Consider a reoccurring donation if you can.
